Afghanistan, USA: “Constant communication with the Taliban”

The United States is “in constant communication” with Taliban leaders in Kabul, “particularly with those in charge of checkpoints” in the Afghan capital. This was stated by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, who, when asked what the security threats are, stressed that there are “multiple”, but the United States will continue to focus “on a combat-free evacuation” and on plans “to take away many people as fast as we can”. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden met his national security team today to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. This was announced by a White House official, according to whom “counter-terrorism operations” were also discussed, including against Isis-K (Islamic State-Khorasan). The group is a sworn enemy of the Taliban and is considered one of the potential threats due to which, among other things, the American embassy in Kabul today asked its compatriots not to go to the airport of the capital, where the security situation it is progressively deteriorating.
