CABLE / BERLIN. A German civilian was shot while traveling to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
The press department of the German federal government informed about it on Friday. The civilian has been provided with medical care and is not currently in danger of death.
“On the way to Kabul Airport, a German civilian suffered a gunshot wound. He is receiving medical assistance, but his life is not in danger and he will soon be able to fly away,” said Ulrike Demmer, a deputy spokeswoman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The German magazine Der Spiegel reported that the German army was sending two military helicopters to Kabul to help evacuate people.
The machines are specially adapted to “rescue hostages” and can land even in small spaces.
German Bundeswehr plans to use helicopters to transport small groups from Kabul airport and other Taliban-controlled areas, Der Spiegel added.
