Covid, EU Parliament: “Temporarily suspend vaccine patents”

To accelerate its global distribution, the European Parliament calls for the temporary suspension of intellectual property rights on anti-Covid vaccines, in a resolution adopted today in Strasbourg with 355 votes in favor, 263 against and 71 abstentions. On this point, the Parliament clearly differs from the European Commission and the European Council, both opposed to the removal of patent protection, preferring voluntary licenses or, if necessary, the compulsory licenses provided for by the Trips agreements.
