The weather in Europe will start to deteriorate significantly in the coming hours, which will allow a large area of ​​low air pressure. It will also bring us the first of this season’s wind storm, which will partially affect Slovakia as well.

Extraordinary windy weather awaits Europe since noon on Wednesday, affecting several European countries. The whipping of the wind is plaguing countries from France to Ukraine, and according to current predictions, strong winds should also cause material damage. These should be most significant in the western part of Europe, where the strongest wind is expected.

However, strong winds will not bypass Central Europe, including Slovakia. However, wind weather will not be everywhere in our territory and the damage that is expected in Slovakia should not be extensive.

The weather will affect Ignatz

The individual pressure units that are more important are receiving their names in Europe. Our area is governed by nomenclature made by German meteorologists, who called the approaching wind storm as Ignatz.

Ignatz is already over Europe at the moment. Its center is moving from the North Sea over Scandinavia, where it will deepen and gain in importance.

However, this extensive pressure core below will not cause problems per se. The pressure lower will be deep, but the pressure gradient will spread over a sufficiently large width. The wind will not reach too dangerous a value, but it will start to change on Wednesday evening.

A new, separate pressure low will deepen over the English Channel under low pressure, advancing across the North Sea over the Baltic Sea, where it will merge with a large area of ​​low pressure.

There will be strong winds especially on the coast

Right now near to This pressure below is expected strongest wind. It will thus reach the highest speeds over England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and over the North and Baltic Seas, where gusts of wind may exceed speed up to 100 km / h.

On Wednesday evening and on Thursday night, a strong southwest wind will take effect in France and the Benelux region. On Thursday morning, the wind will pick up in Germany as well.

During Thursday, it is gradually blowing in Central Europe, including our territory, while the strong southwest wind will gradually turn to the northwest and colder air will begin to penetrate into our area.

The wind will do damage

The strongest gusts of wind are expected in the northern half of France, in the Benelux region and in Germany. Gusts of wind should move from 70 to 90 km / h, rarely up to about 100 km / h.

Meteorologists have already issued warnings for the affected countries. The wind is expected to break branches and smaller trees, and power outages are expected.

Slovakia will be hit by the wind especially on Thursday

Not even a strong wind can bypass our territory. It will start to grow on Wednesday during the day, when the gusts of wind will move up to 50 km / h. This in itself is not a danger. In the mountains, however, the wind will be even stronger and here the gusts of wind should reach up to 75 km / h.

The wind will start to pick up on Thursday morning, when at the same time the south wind starts to turn to the northwest. In the mountains, the wind will reach the force of the storm. In lower positions, wind gusts will move up to 60 km / h.

The most dangerous situation in our territory is expected on Thursday at noon, when the southern wind in the Danube Plain intensifies, which could reach gusts of up to about 80 km / h, which can already cause damage.
