Moscow threatens to block YouTube

Moscow threatened to block YouTube after the video-sharing platform removed two German-language channels from broadcaster Russia Today for violating coronavirus information disclosure rules. According to reports from the Tass agency, the regulator of the media, Roskomnadsor, has announced that access to YouTube in the country could be partially or completely blocked. Roskomnadsor wrote to Google, which owns YouTube, demanding that all restrictions on Rt be removed “as soon as possible”. Otherwise Google will receive a formal recall. According to the Russian body, American society has violated “the basic principles of the free distribution of information and free access to it”, arguing that the one against Rt is an “act of censorship of the Russian media”.
