Panama closes its border with Colombia temporarily amid COVID-19 concerns

(CNN Spanish) – The government of Panama decided to temporarily suspend the entry by land, sea and river, of any person from the border with Colombia, as of this Thursday, May 20, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country through a statement. .

The announcement is made hours after the Colombian government issued a resolution from the country’s Ministry of the Interior, in which it determines the opening of maritime, land and river crossings on the common border between the two nations.

“The Republic of Panama expresses its concern regarding the decision of the Government of the Republic of Colombia”, as noted in the official statement of the Panamanian government, in which it explains that “said measure puts at risk the significant progress achieved by all the Panamanians to control the covid-19 pandemic, as well as border security and the control of migratory flows ”.
