A good station wagon at a reasonable price? The new Fabia Combi 2023 was supposed to be closest to the ideal.
Mala, she could, but she won’t. Two years before its launch, Škoda did what we expected from the beginning. The Fabia Combi project has been deleted. They are certainly the reason for the issue, in particular the new extremely strict Euro 7 emission standard.
In the end, the new Škoda Fabia will still follow the path paved by all its competitors. We will include a small car with a backpack among the body versions that will (probably) leave us forever. Those interested in the fourth-generation Fabia will have to choose between the short Fabia IV, still produced by the Fabia III Combi and Kamiq, or other crossovers within the portfolio of the group or other manufacturers.
The decision was announced by the brand management in a letter to the employees. The reason for the sudden cessation of development is obvious. Even before its arrival, the new emission standard puts so much pressure on manufacturers that they simply can’t afford to spend money on … anything burning. They have to push them into the development of new electric cars with the belief that their trams will be bought by their customers.
Completing the development of the Fabia IV Combi on the MQB A0 platform is another of the cuts that carmakers in Europe have to make to secure their future. These measures include electrifying the entire model portfolio, building new plug-in hybrids, electric cars, ending the development of new internal combustion engines, reducing the number of specifications and other cuts.
