WASHINGTON. The evacuation from the Afghan capital Kabul is one of the largest and most difficult air bridges in history. The United States has taken about 13,000 people from Kabul Airport since August 14.

Biden has pledged to evacuate all Americans currently in Afghanistan who want to return home.

“We’ll get you home,” he stressed.

According to him, the USA is also evacuating all Afghans who helped in the war effort.

The president also noted that a total of about 18,000 people have been airlifted from Afghanistan since July, with thousands more evacuated by private charter planes, “with the help of the US government.”

Biden also said at the White House that he had not seen US allies question the credibility of the United States over the process of withdrawing from Afghanistan when the country was ruled by the Taliban.

They made a deal with the Taliban

He said the United States was in “close operational coordination with NATO” in the evacuation operation in Kabul and “is also facilitating flights for our allies and our partners.”

Asked if the United States would send troops to the center of Kabul to expel all Americans who could not get to the airport, Biden said it would not be necessary because “we have an agreement with the Taliban.” According to him, every holder of a US passport has been allowed entry so far.

On August 15, militants of the fundamentalist Taliban movement easily occupied the Afghan capital, Kabul, and overthrew a government that had been militarily backed by the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance for two decades.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had fled his homeland shortly before.

That is why thousands of people are currently trying to get out of Kabul. Many Western states have closed their embassies there and are evacuating their citizens and local collaborators.
