The Czech actress ended up in prison: Colleagues demanded the DEATH PENALTY! – Topky.sk

Jiřina Štěpničková was born on April 3, 1912. As a child, she was interested in sports, cinema and theater. Soon she was standing on the stage herself and later began to study drama at the conservatory. Already during her studies, she was accepted into the National Theater in Prague. In 1931, she appeared in the film Men in the Offside and later, for example, in the films Extase, Heroic Captain Korkorán, The Eleventh Commandment, Grandmother, Prelude, The Guardian…!, Larks on a String, Hammer for Witches, Pěnička and Umbrella… In Time During World War II, she avoided making German films. After the end of the war, however, she had little work. Since she previously lived in London, the ŠtB immediately focused on her, but the actress refused to cooperate. But it was a trap and she was arrested when she tried to cross the border. Subsequently, many theatergoers demanded a harsh punishment for her, and colleagues directly from her home theater even voted for the death penalty. She spent 10 years in prison. After her release, she was rehabilitated and returned to the stage, where she played practically until her death. Jiřina Štěpničková died on September 5, 1985.
