Charging a Google Pixel 6 may pay off or be slow

Like other manufacturers, Google says goodbye to the charger in the box for its new flagship.

We know of more and more things on the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro before their full presentation. This time, it is Google who comes directly to inform us of an important characteristic.

The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be offered without a charger in the box. The firm has indeed confirmed to The Verge that the Google Pixel 5a just unveiled would be the last to offer a charger.

A park installed, but probably slow

Apple had already reacted a lot by removing the chargers from their iPhone 12 boxes. As with Apple, the reasoning is simple: almost everyone already has a charger at home.

Obviously for the brand, the reason is in the economy, even slight per product sold, of a charger and a more compact box to transport. The ecological argument will most likely be put forward by Google.

However, this could be a problem if you don’t have USB chargers with the right connections, Google will probably provide a USB-C to USB-C cable with its Pixel 6, or if your charger is slow. People do have chargers in their homes, but probably with a regular USB-A connector, and probably older 5W to 15W chargers.

Smartphone manufacturers have been racing for fast charging for several years. It will now be necessary to put the hand in the wallet to benefit from it.
