TASR was informed about this by the President’s spokesman Martin Strižinec. The president was scheduled to travel with Polish President Andrzej Dud to Portugal and Italy on Wednesday evening to support the granting of candidate status for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union in joint talks with the Portuguese president and prime minister and the Italian president. “We want to support Ukraine’s candidate status with President Dud before the vote at the leaders’ summit in Brussels. I am very sorry that I cannot finally join President Dud,” Čaputová said. She proposed a joint initiative during the Polish President’s recent visit to Bratislava. The topic of discussions in Portugal and Italy was also to be energy security and possible alternative ways of supplying gas to Slovakia.
