Ukraine, “more than a thousand prisoners brought to Russia from Mariupol”

Over a thousand Ukrainian soldiers and “foreign mercenaries” captured by Russian forces in Mariupol were taken to Russia. The Russian agency Tass reported this in the past few hours, citing a source according to which “more than a thousand people from Azovstal have been transferred to Russia” and “the police are working with them”. According to Tass, “other prisoners” could be transferred to Russia “in the future”. According to what Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said yesterday, almost 6,500 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered to the Russian armed forces and are now prisoners of war. Of those, Shoigu said, 126 have given up in the past five days. Russian forces in the past ten days have destroyed 50 foreign weapon systems, including armored vehicles and howitzers, he added.
