This wouldn’t be the first time a James card has been auctioned off for millions of dollars. In July 2020, a card from his 2003-2004 rookie season with the Cavaliers sold for $1.8 million. A similar card sold in April 2021 for $5.2 million, according to PWCC Marketplace. The ‘Triple Logoman’ card was found after a year-long search that wowed collectors. Even rapper Drake participated in the search and bought 10 boxes of cards in a failed attempt to find him, Goldin said. Goldin noted that James’s newfound billionaire status could influence the final price. “LeBron is one of the most recognizable athletes and celebrities on the planet,” Goldin said. “Very few people in the history of sports or entertainment have matched his career.
