Legislative 2022: the Council of State asks the Ministry of the Interior to consider Nupes “as a unique political nuance” – Le Monde

During his presidential campaign, the one who wants to be appointed prime minister had devoted three hours of broadcasting to the costing of his program. Noting that his adversaries foresee in spite of that “the nuclear winter and the invasion of the locusts” if he came to power, Jean-Luc Mélenchon insisted on reaffirming the ideas of his economic program. He was accompanied by economists Eric Berr, lecturer at the University of Bordeaux, Cédric Durand, lecturer at the University of Paris-XIII, Aurélie Trouvou, president of the parliament of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), and Manon Aubry, MEP specializing in tax evasion. Mr. Mélenchon recalled the additional expenses that he foresees and estimated that they would lead to a leverage effect: “250 billion will be injected, and when they have finished their circuit – used in investments, distributed in salaries, used in equipment – , at the other end 267 billion will go up in taxes and social security contributions”. Among the expenses, the investment of 50 billion euros per year in the “ecological bifurcation” and public services, 75 billion in the creation of a million public jobs and the upgrading of civil servants, and 125 billion aid, subsidies and redistributions of wealth. Jean-Luc Mélenchon chanted: “It is time to live with the times: happy globalization is over, liberalism and the market have shown their absolute inability to resolve the major crises that arise, climate crisis, fuel crisis, cereals, migrations. According to him, “we have to invent something else, an economy that starts from needs, regulated, supervised, negotiated”. “Yes, you can trust us, we say to the French. We organized, planned, thought about what we were going to do,” he said. Aurélie Trouvou, herself an academic in economics, declared: “What we are doing is supported by a large part of the profession” of economists, contrary to the “erroneous data, caricatures and false ideas” conveyed according to her by the “think tanks that support Macron”. She referred in particular to the Institut Montaigne and Terra Nova. Eric Berr pleaded for the increase in wages, “which would allow us to fight against the stagflation which threatens us”, a mixture of economic stagnation and inflation. And Cédric Durand estimated that the “public debt situation is very favorable” for investing, under very low interest rates.
