Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov canceled his visit to Serbia on Monday after surrounding countries closed their airspace for the plane he was to fly to Belgrade. In this regard, Interfax quoted an unnamed senior Foreign Ministry official in Moscow as saying that Bulgaria, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, Serbia’s neighboring countries, had announced that they would not allow Lavrov’s plane into their airspace. “Our diplomacy is not yet able to provide teleportation,” the Russian ministry source quoted the incident as saying. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič should address the nation’s speech on Monday evening in canceling Lavra’s visit, local media reported. Vučič, who took over the second presidential term at the end of May, has long maintained close relations with Kremlin chief Putin. He therefore did not join the sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries in response to aggression against Ukraine. Nevertheless, Vučič identifies Serbia’s accession to the EU as his priority.
