Britain has launched new sanctions against Russia, sanctions targeting 12 members of Vladimir Putin’s entourage, “the shadowy network that supports the President’s luxurious lifestyle,” as Foreign Minister Liz Truss commented. Among the names included in the new list, stand out those of the ex-wife of the President, Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, of the former Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva, who would have married Putin and who would have had children by him, alongside Kabaeva’s grandmother, Anna Zatseplina. Kabeva was also a deputy for united Russia and is now president of the National Media Group which includes newspapers and TV channels. The cousins of the President, Mikhail Shelomov, Igor and Roman Putin are also sanctioned. The friend of the President, Alexander Plekhov, the executive of Bank Rossiya, and member of the Board of Directors of Sogaz, Mikhail Klishin, Vladimir Kolbin, son of Putin’s childhood friend, Peter Kolbin, and of Yuri Shamalov, son of the Bank Rossiya shareholder Nikolai Shamalov, considered one of the leading exponents of the new elite.
