Born, Sweden accelerates debate on membership

Sweden will anticipate the publication of the analysis report of the consequences on the eventual accession to NATO. Foreign Minister Ann Linde said on the radio, explaining that Stockholm is committed to speeding up the debate to clarify its intentions. Neighboring Finland, Linde recalled, has already published the report analyzing the pros and cons of membership. EU member countries, Sweden and Finland could now join NATO in the face of the threat posed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Moscow has threatened both countries with consequences if they join the Atlantic Alliance, but most of the public opinion in the two countries now supports this choice. In Sweden, the latest polls show 51% in favor and 24% against in a marked change from the past.
