The vaccine adapted to the coronavirus variant omicron will be given in Germany this September. This was stated by the Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach for the Sunday Bild am Sonntag.
“We will have a vaccine that protects against omicron variants – and we expect it to be in September,” Lauterbach was quoted as saying by the DPA.
As new variants continue to emerge, “it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to prepare for these mutations,” the minister said. “It is quite likely that we will be dealing with a highly infectious and as deadly omicron variant as the delta variant. This variant will be an absolute killer,” Lauterbach said.
In Germany, for the first time since January, the incidence number fell below 1,000. This arithmetic value represents the number of new cases of coronavirus infection in the last seven days for every 100,000 inhabitants.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) – the Berlin-based Institute for Disease Prevention and Control – reported 876.5 new infections per 100,000 on Saturday, a significant drop from Friday’s average of 1001.5, the DPA summarizes.
