Presidential election 2022: Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s supporters vote overwhelmingly for the blank vote or abstention – Le Figaro

La France insoumise disseminated the results of the consultation carried out over three days with the citizens who sponsored the candidate. What will the voters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon do? After three days of digital consultation, 215,292 of the approximately 310,000 supporters who sponsored his candidacy expressed their views. 37.65% of them indicated that they would opt for the blank or null vote, 33.40% should go for Emmanuel Macron and 28.96% wish to abstain. According to the file released by the party, none of the participants favors Marine Le Pen. With 21.95% of the votes in the first round, Jean-Luc Mélenchon has gathered behind him an essential pool of votes that Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen are now vying for. One by multiplying the appeals of the foot to the left – especially around ecological issues -, the other by pressing ever more on its social tropism and its defense of purchasing power. Voters are all the more coveted as the leader of LFI refused to give voting instructions and preferred to consult his support base. During his last speech, however, the candidate repeated many times that “not a voice should go to Mrs. Le Pen”. In the Journal du Dimanche, the president of the group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, reiterated this position. “Neither of them are up to the vital breaks that our country needs,” she said, ensuring “understanding the immense anger that there is against Emmanuel Macron”. Without supporting the latter, the elected said “hope” that “the voters will not be mistaken about the social imposture of the candidacy of Marine Le Pen”.
