US drug overdose deaths hit another record high, CDC says

The US sanctions 25 drug trafficking actors, most of them Latin Americans 6:10 (CNN) — The unprecedented increase in drug overdose deaths in the United States continues and reached another record, according to new provisional data published this Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC estimates that 106,854 people died due to a drug overdose in the 12-month period ending November 2021. Annual drug overdose deaths have more than doubled in the last six years, increasing 16% in just the last year. Drug overdoses kill more than 100,000 in the US 1:23Synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, were involved in about two-thirds of drug overdose deaths last year. While heroin-related deaths have decreased in recent months, deaths related to synthetic opioids or psychostimulants have nearly doubled in the past two years. Over the past year, overdose deaths have increased in all but three states: Wyoming, Hawaii and New Hampshire. A third of all overdose deaths occurred in five states: California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas.
