The Communist candidate, who came in eighth position on Sunday evening with 2.28% – but ahead of the PS (1.75%) – sent a congratulatory text message to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who came third with 21, 95% of the votes. The candidate of the Insoumis has not yet answered him. In his message, Fabien Roussel was not satisfied with congratulations. He also asked him for an interview, with a view to the legislative elections. No answer for the moment. Did he get the message? But the atmosphere is not good between the two formations, far from it. The PCF’s “Happy Days” campaign, like to a lesser extent that of the ecologists with Yannick Jadot, is held responsible for the failure of the Insoumis to reach the second round. Mélenchon missed 421,420 votes. “We were together in 2012 and 2017 and this time we were close to the second round. How can I do other than say that yes, he has a share of the responsibility, ”reacted LFI deputy Adrien Quatennens on France5 on Monday. “You don’t have to be an eagle to say that if we had teamed up…” Sign of these tensions on the ground, several ecological or communist offices were targeted in Nantes and in the North. Others had already been over the course of the campaign. “These attacks were inconceivable before, they still are not after. Politics is not conducted like that, ”reacted Fabien Roussel to Figaro. “The far right achieved an unprecedented score under the Fifth Republic and Marine Le Pen has plenty of votes. All this invites us to be mobilized to come together”. In his message, Fabien Roussel reached out for a dialogue with Jean-Luc Mélenchon in view of the legislative elections. Questioned by Le Figaro, the person in charge of the elections of the Insoumis, Paul Vannier, himself a candidate for the legislative elections in Val-d’Oise, replies: “I do not have an appointment with the PCF on my agenda for the moment, which does not mean that we do not have things to say”. According to our information, however, rebels, communists and ecologists should see each other “in the coming days”. The discussion does not look easy. The Insoumis had written to each other before the first round to propose that they work to form a majority in the Assembly around the program which will have been placed at the head, and by protecting the outgoing ones. These conditions were then considered too harsh. On BFMTV, Julien Bayou, national secretary of EELV, called on Tuesday evening the voters “who could have voted Yannick Jadot but who did not do so at the last moment out of strategy” to vote for the Greens in the legislative elections “to advance the ecology in the country”.
