Lionel Messi equals the record for matches with Argentina … and signs an incredible fan tattoo

(CNN) – Lionel Messi played his 147th international game for Argentina on Monday, equaling Javier Mascherano’s all-time record for the Albiceleste.

The Barcelona forward started his team’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the Copa América, helping secure Argentina’s passage to the quarterfinals.

Papu Gómez’s goal in the 10th minute was enough to win by the minimum and keep Argentina undefeated in the tournament.

Over the weekend, Messi had made a fan happy by signing his impressive tattoo on his back, which shows the famous photo of the Argentine holding his shirt at the Bernabéu after scoring the winning goal, the 500th of his career, against Real Madrid in 2017.

The Argentine network TyC Sports published a photo of the incredible work of art on its Instagram page, where Messi saw it and commented that he would like to sign it.

After Messi fulfilled his promise, the fan returned to the tattoo shop to have the Argentine’s signature put on his back permanently.

In another Group A match earlier, Chile secured their ticket to the quarterfinals thanks to a 1-1 draw against Uruguay, with an own goal by Arturo Vidal that annulled the first scored by Eduardo Vargas.

The top four teams from each group of five teams advance to the knockout stages.
