Framework: the modular laptop PC arrives in France, here are its prices and availability – Frandroid

Finally, Framework launches its modular laptop PC in France. It obtained 9.7 out of 10 on the repairability index implemented in France.

In May 2021, we spoke to you for the premiere of Laptop Framework. The team behind this project is trying to create what Google couldn’t do with the Project Ara. The whole ambition of Framework is to demonstrate, against the trend born of the success of the MacBook Air, that creating a modular and repairable laptop PC is possible without sacrificing too much thickness, ergonomics, performance or weight.

This laptop is avant-garde, it is part of a fundamental trend for the “Right to repair”. A movement that goes much further thanrepairability indicator, whose calculation is complex and opaque. The Framework’s approach is in this trend, the opposite of that of Apple, which centralizes repairs of its iPhones and MacBooks in Apple Stores and certain authorized resellers.

From 899 euros, but at this price you will have to assemble it yourself

After the United States and Canada, Framework launches pre-orders in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The first machines will be shipped in February 2022.

After iFixit, who was very satisfied with Framework’s approach (10/10), they scored 9.7 out of 10 at therepairability index set up in France. Framework therefore seems to be keeping its initial promise, by making it easier to repair its machines.

Regarding prices, the Laptop Framework can be pre-ordered from 899 euros for the DIY version and 1,149 euros for the ready-to-use version with Intel Core i5 CPU, 256 GB of SSD and 8 GB of RAM memory.

The most expensive version, with a Core i7-1185G7, 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD, is at 2,279 euros. You can then add expansion cards, including connectors or additional storage. You can pre-order one of the configurations directly on the official website, with 100 euros refundable deposit.

The configurations in detail

One would have expected modest specs, but that’s not the case. The Framework Laptop has a 13.5-inch IPS LCD display in 3: 2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,256 x 1,504 pixels. Right now you don’t have a choice of screen, but it’s a good screen on paper: 8 bit, 100% sRGB and the brightness can exceed 400 nits.

There are no options yet with AMD, you have the choice between an Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU up to Core i7-1186G7. There are three pre-assembled configurations, which you can upgrade later. They are all equipped with Windows 10, and compatible with Windows 11. The 55 Wh battery should allow good autonomy.
