It’s a way of saying goodbye to him a little more. No longer updated since iOS 13 in 2019, the iPhone 6 Plus will soon no longer be able to be repaired. According to the site MacRumors, Apple should switch it to its vintage product category on December 31.

Being placed in this list means that the device ceased to be distributed by Apple for more than five years and less than seven years. It is above all indicative for legal guarantees and spare parts. Apple stores and authorized repairers offer repairs on older products up to seven years, as long as parts are available. Becoming “vintage” thus positions the iPhone 6 Plus in an end-of-life category before becoming “obsolete” and therefore eliminating the slightest chance of repair.

IPhone 6 is on probation

Launched in September 2014, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus ushered in a new era for Apple with a rounder design change and especially the arrival of larger screens including a very large model for the first time (4,7 and 5, 5 inches at the time). In addition, the two iPhones brought with them an improved photo (a single sensor, however, still at the time) and Apple Pay contactless payment. A resounding success which followed the carton of the iPhone 5s.

Apple stopped marketing the iPhone 6 Plus in 2016 and it would therefore have reached the age of going vintage, alongside the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. A list in which the hugely popular iPhone 5s, and long the best-selling model, is not yet featured. The iPhone 6 should not appear there yet. Building on its success, the Cupertino company continued to pamper it for a long time, it could still be found at partner resellers until 2018. Its days are undoubtedly numbered, but it will be more for 2022.
