Pixel Watch: the first Google watch will arrive next year

The Business Insider site has learned that Google will indeed launch its first connected watch next year, under its own brand.

It has been several years now that constant rumors evoke the start of a Google Pixel Watch. It must be said that if the Mountain View firm is at the origin of the system Wear OS, it has not yet launched any connected watch as a constructor. This could finally change as early as next year as claimed Business Insider.

The site has indeed learned that Google will prepare a launch in 2022 for its very first connected watch, known so far as the Pixel Watch and, internally, under the code name Rohan. “The device, which is called Rohan internally, will introduce the latest version of Google’s watch system to consumers and partners based on documents viewed by Insider and several current and former employees.”, says Business Insider.

The American site also obtained some information about the design of Google’s first digital toquante: “Unlike the Apple Watch, Google’s smartwatch is round and has no physical edges based on artistic renderings obtained by Insider and the employees who viewed it. Like the Apple device, it will measure health and activity data ”. Among these different health measures, we can obviously expect a heart rate monitor, but also to a count of the number of steps during the day. As with most watches running Wear OS, the Google Pixel Watch will also require daily recharging, which is still particularly slow for the time being.

A watch launched under the Google brand, not Fitbit

If Google waited so long before launching its own connected watch, we can think that the firm was waiting for the buyout of Fitbit to take care of it. It seems that this is not ultimately the case and that the Pixel Watch is not launched by the brand of watches and connected bracelets, bought at the beginning of the year by Google. Fitbit does plan to launch watches under Wear OS, but the Pixel Watch will be a Google watch, not Fitbit.

For now, we still do not know when Google intends to present its connected watch. Two windows seem to open according to previous presentations of the firm’s products. We could thus discover the Pixel Watch on the occasion of the Google I / O conference, next May, or at the beginning of September, during the traditional Made by Google conference.
