Black Friday is an opportunity to make significant savings on flagships released a few months ago. Two very interesting offers make it possible to bring down the iPhone 12 mini and the Samsung Galaxy S21 to less than 600 euros, here are our recommendations to make the right choice.

Why choose the Samsung Galaxy S21?

• The Apple ecosystem and its long-term updates

The iPhone 12 mini benefits from a destocking at 599 euros at Fnac and Darty instead of 689 euros usually for Black Friday.

Two high-end smartphones with a lot of similarities

The Samsung Galaxy S21 and the iPhone 12 both represent the entry of the high end among Korean and American brands released a few months apart between late 2020 and early 2021. The most compact size of their respective ranges, they respectively ship a 6.2-inch Full HD + AMOLED screen for the Galaxy S21 and 5.4 inches for the iPhone 12 mini. They are both equipped with one of the latest SoCs of their brands engraved in 5 nm, supported by 8 GB for the Samsung and 4 GB for the iPhone. Even if they both offer excellent performance in all situations, the solution embedded by the iPhone is more effective thanks to the optimizations provided by iOS.

Unfortunately, this requires sacrifices on the autonomy, because the iPhone 12 mini embeds a mini battery of 2227 mAh which, unlike the comfortable 4000 mAh of the Galaxy S21, can be detrimental to it to last a full day. This is a point that has been corrected on iPhone 13 mini, but it’s still the Achilles heel of the 12 mini.

But also major differences

Of course, the main difference between the two smartphones is in the on-board OS. the Galaxy S21 runs on Android 12 with the OneUI 4 interface when we find iOS on the iPhone 12 mini currently in version 15.1.1 at the time of writing. Advantage for Apple on this point, the advantage of iPhones will undoubtedly benefit from many updates and novelties from the Apple ecosystem over many years. On the Samsung side, the Korean brand now guarantees 4 years of updates on its flagships, but we do not yet know the number of major Android updates that the S21 will benefit from.

To console ourselves, we can rely on the very complete and versatile photo solution offered by the Samsung Galaxy S21 as we indicated in our test with its 3 wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensors. The latter is absent on the iPhone 12 mini. Finally, we will appreciate the USB C port of the Galaxy S21 which contrasts with the aging lightning port on the iPhone 12 mini. In short, the two smartphones are worth a lot and the choice should above all be on the operating system: the compartmentalized comfort of iOS on the iPhone 12 mini or the very versatile Android with OneUI on the Samsung Galaxy S21.
