Cop26, final draft document: “Reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030”

The British presidency has published a draft of the final document of COP26, the UN climate summit underway in Glasgow. The document, the British media reports, urges countries to “revisit and strengthen” by the end of 2022 the emission reduction targets for 2030 in their national action plans with the aim of limiting global warming to 1 , 5 degrees. The draft, which will be the basis for negotiation between the countries participating in the talks, also calls for plans and policies to be defined by the end of next year to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero emissions by half. It calls on countries to accelerate the phasing out of coal and fossil fuel subsidies, and on developed countries to at least double climate funding to help developing countries adapt to climate change.
