PARIS (Reuters) – Carrefour announced on Tuesday that it aims to increase its gross volume of merchandise in e-commerce to 10 billion euros by 2026, as part of its strategy to become a major player in e-commerce. -trade.

The distribution giant predicts that digital will contribute an additional 600 million euros to current operating income in 2026 compared to 2021.

To do this, it plans to increase its investments in digital technology by 50%, with a dedicated plan of three billion euros between 2022 and 2026.

As a result, Carrefour has raised its annual investment target to around 1.7 billion euros, at the top of the 1.5 billion to 1.7 billion range communicated at the start of the year.

“At the end of a successful first transformation plan, we now want to transform Carrefour, a traditional distributor with e-commerce capabilities, into a ‘Digital Retail Company’, which places ‘digital’ and ‘data’ at the heart of all its operations and its value creation model, ”CEO Alexandre Bompard explained in a press release.
