Covid, Ricciardi: “Yes to vaccination obligation, but first Green pass everywhere”

“I am in favor of the vaccination obligation. But it is clear that the choice is entirely of a political nature”. So Walter Ricciardi, consultant to the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, in an interview with ‘Il Foglio’. “Thanks to the measures implemented, we have reversed the epidemic curve, but we cannot be satisfied, because with the Delta variant, population immunity will only come with 95% of the vaccinated”, explains the professor of hygiene at Cattolica. With a rate of immunizations that more than halved in August, does this mean that the obligation to vaccinate cannot continue to be a taboo? “No, even if from now on the pandemic will be more an individual matter than a collective one. Here – he warns – why I would first try the path of persuasion through general practitioners, who can intercept a large number of undecided. Then if by October we will not have reached the threshold of 80% immunized, politics will have to make a decision “. Over 50 people without prophylaxis are still over 4 million. How else can they go and find them if not with the vaccination obligation? “With a Green pass extended to any area of sociality”, Ricciardi replies. “So not only for big events but also on buses, on the subway, to access the workplace”, adds the consultant. “If we had also adopted it in July and August – he says – probably tourist regions such as Sicily and Sardinia would not risk ending up in the yellow zone”.
