Death of Luana, the report: two tampering with the warper

The two warpers at the center of the report requested by the Prato prosecutor who is investigating the dynamics of the fatal accident of Luana D’Orazio, the 22-year-old Pistoian apprentice, mother of a child, would have been tampered with to avoid interruptions and thus speed up production. 5 years old, sucked and crushed on May 3rd by the machinery she worked on in a textile company in Oste di Montemurlo (Prato). This is what transpires from the first results of the technical investigations carried out on the two machines in the “Orditura Luana” company, conducted by the expert appointed by the Public Prosecutor, who is about to deliver the advice to the prosecutor Giuseppe Nicolosi. The survey was conducted on the German-made warpers Karl Mayer TexilmachineFabrik Gmbh. It would be two different tampering: one to the electrical panel and the other to the mechanical part. The modification to the electrical panel on the warper on which the 22-year-old worker was working would have allowed the machine to operate automatically even with the safety gate down. And already on the twin warper – also seized – the absence of the safety photocell would have been ascertained.In the meantime yesterday the spouses Luana Coppini and Daniele Faggi were questioned in the offices of the Prato prosecutor’s office, heard respectively as owner and manager of made of the warping where the fatal accident occurred. Both are under investigation for manslaughter and omission of accident prevention safeguards. The maintenance technician, Mario Cusimano, is also investigated for the same crimes. Luana Coppini would have answered the questions of the investigators, while her husband made use of the right not to answer.
