Boldrini: “Pausini sing what he wants, Bella ciao is not biased”

Laura Pausini’s choice not to sing ‘Bella ciao’ during a Spanish TV broadcast continues to divide Italian politics. “I don’t want to sing political songs”, the Italian pop star justified herself, motivating the reasons for her refusal to ‘sing’ her. The former Speaker of the Chamber and member of the Democratic Party Laura Boldrini on the one hand ‘absolves’ Pausini, on the other, however, underlines how the famous anthem of the Partisan Resistance should not be considered a political song. “I think it is legitimate for an artist to decide what to sing and what not. But it should be made clear that Bella ciao is not a partisan song. Maybe you can believe this but it isn’t”, she explains to Adnkronos Boldrini. ‘Bella ciao’, underlines the former president of Montecitorio, “is a hymn that is inspired by freedom from a dictatorship and represents the regained Italian democracy. It is a hymn known for this all over the world. I remember when at the beginning of the pandemics in other European countries demonstrations of solidarity with Italy were organized on the notes of Bella ciao, precisely to send this message “. “This song has also become popular in TV series: the characters of the Spanish series ‘La casa di carta’ sing Bella ciao, for example. To consider this song ‘political’ is an incorrect interpretation”, insists Boldrini, who then comments: “Bella ciao is not biased, it is Italy, freedom. And all over the world it is known for this”.
