An award to future surveyors for barrier-free cities

New ideas and solutions for barrier-free cities, developed by the surveyors of the future. The prizes for the tenth edition of the competition ‘Future surveyors design accessibility’, promoted by Fiaba onlus and the National Council of Graduated Surveyors, were delivered in Rome, in the main hall of the Faculty of Architecture of Valle Giulia. in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility, by Anci, by Cassa geometri and by Uni – Italian Standardization Body, was carried out thanks to the support of Geoweb SpA, Kone, Topcon Positioning Italy Srl and Vittorio Martini 1866 . In the ten editions of the competition “Future surveyors design accessibility” 240 projects for the removal of architectural barriers were presented throughout the country, with over 400 institutes involved in the initiative and more than 6,000 students who have learned to design in an accessible way. “It is extremely important that the designers of tomorrow are trained in universal design, because it is an asset that concerns 100% of the Italian, European and international population”, says Giuseppe Trieste, president of Fiaba Onlus, who has added: “we must ensure that tourists from abroad will find an Italy within everyone’s reach. The quality of daily life passes through the quality of accessibility: this is universal design, which has already been achieved for forty years in other countries, while here in Italy it took a long time ”. The Minister for Disabilities, Erika Stefani, spoke with a video message and, congratulating the young people on the projects presented, recalled: “I know that you are aware of the importance, not only practical but also strongly symbolic, of these works. Every gesture, every new idea, every project are always very useful when it is necessary to travel, together, the path that will lead to an inclusive and modern society of the future “. “The goal – she added – is to ensure that all barriers, physical but also and above all cultural ones, are removed. And we owe it to you young people who are the future of this country and are the ones who will live the society we are building today. And it is for this reason that we must build and plan together “, he concluded. Giusy Versace, deputy and member of the XII Social Affairs Committee of the Chamber, also sent a message underlining the importance of initiatives such as the one promoted by Fiaba onlus:” I that I am a supporter of universal design, design for all – she said – I can only rejoice in this initiative. Twenty-three institutions involved who presented as many p Projects submitted to the scrutiny of the jury who selected the three best works in each category – urban spaces, public and school buildings and leisure facilities – taking into account some criteria: the analysis of the critical issues, the functionality and universality of the solution adopted , the originality, the architectural quality and the quality of the works. Also awarded the Kone Prize, a special recognition attributed to the institute that envisaged the installation of vertical transport systems in its project. At the ceremony, over one hundred students and professors from 8 Cat Technical Institutes from all over Italy: from Udine to Bronte, from Cesena to Sanluri, from Pesaro to Iseo, from Pieve di Soligo to Casarano. The project results will be made available to the various local administrations to improve the usability of the territory. The prizes for the ‘urban spaces’ category were received by: the ‘Marinoni’ Institute of Udine; the ‘Meucci’ Institute of Casarano; and the ‘Casagrande’ Institute of Pieve di Soligo. The prizes for the ‘public and school buildings’ category went to: the ‘Vignarelli’ Institute of Sanluri; ‘Garibaldi – Da Vinci’ Institute of Cesena; and ‘Giobert’ from Asti. Finally, the first three classified for the ‘leisure facilities’ category were: Istituto ‘Radice’ of Bronte; ‘Bramante-Genga’ Institute of Pesaro; and the ‘Antonietti’ Institute of Iseo.
