Afghanistan, car bomb in Kabul: death toll rises to 50

The toll of a car bomb exploded in Kabul rises to 50 dead. While another 100 people were injured in three consecutive explosions in front of a girls’ high school in the capital of Afghanistan, Afghan police confirmed Sunday. “The nature of one of the explosions was a car bomb. Two other explosions were caused by improvised devices placed in the same location,” Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz told reporters. The attack took place in front of Sayyed-ul-Shuhada high school in Etifaq area, police district 13, at approximately 4:30 pm Saturday local time, when the students were leaving the building. Most of the victims were students, but many passersby were also hit. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban militant group denied the involvement of its own rebels and accused the militants of the Islamic State. Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the attack and instructed health officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.
