VIDEO Military coup in Sudan: Extraordinary negotiations! They report dead and many injured – Topky.sk

Clashes broke out in the Sudanese capital Khartoum following a speech by General Abdal Fattah Burhan, who dissolved the Supreme Council of Sudan on Monday – a body acting as a collective head of state as well as a government cabinet. At the same time, he declared a state of emergency and announced the formation of a “competent” government.

The violence in front of the army headquarters occurred hours after soldiers arrested Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallu Hamdok, his government ministers and civilian members of the Sudanese government council, the Ministry of Information said. They took them away after “refusing to support the coup,” the ministry wrote on the social network Facebook.

The Sudanese Ministry of Information said the soldiers “fired sharp bullets at protesters rejecting the military coup” in front of the army headquarters.

Victims also report violence

An independent central committee of Sudanese doctors clarified that at least three people had died and about 80 others were injured after soldiers opened fire on angry protesters. Reuters reported at least seven victims and 140 injured in the clash.

The Sovereign Council of Sudan was established in August 2019, when it replaced the then ruling military council. This civil-military ruling body was to oversee the country’s transition to civilian rule.

The detention of the Sudanese prime minister has meanwhile been condemned by the United States, the United Nations and the EU, who have also called for his release. The United States has suspended $ 700 million in financial aid to Sudan in response to the overthrow of former longtime autocratic president Umar Bashir, Reuters said.
