CORONAVIRUS – Thirty departments are currently exceeding the alert threshold, set at 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Guyana remains the most affected territory, with an incidence rate nearly five times higher.

After eight weeks of decline, the incidence rate is on the rise again. Today of 50.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to data from Public Health France, it rose to 48 between October 11 and 17, after falling to 43.4 between October 2 and 8, its lowest level since the beginning of July.

In total, in metropolitan France, 28 departments are this Monday above the alert threshold, set at 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Overseas Territories, Martinique (132) and Guyana (229) also exceed this threshold, according to data from Covid-Tracker, updates Sunday.

In detail, the two most affected departments in metropolitan France are located in the South, with Haute-Loire (89), and Bouches-du-Rhône (88). Next comes Paris, with 83 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. All the departments of Île-de-France are moreover beyond 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with however strong disparities. In Seine-et-Marne, it reached 52, against 75 for Yvelines and Val-de-Marne.

The west affected, the north and the center spared

The west of France, relatively spared in recent weeks, has seen an upsurge in cases of contamination with eight departments exceeding the alert threshold: Ille-et-Vilaine (52), Mayenne (54), Charente -Maritime (55), Indre-et-Loire (56), Loire-Atlantique (65), Maine-et-Loire (74), Vendée and Deux-Sèvres (83). In the northern part of the country, only the Ardennes department is in orange on the map, with 55 incidence. In the center, the Cher (51) is the only affected.

Further south, ten departments are concerned, including Bouches-du-Rhône and Haute-Loire, mentioned above. Lot-et-Garonne has an incidence rate of 52, Haute-Savoie and Hautes-Alpes 59. Next come Corrèze and Alpes-Maritimes (62), Pyrénées-Atlantiques (81), and ‘Aveyron (84). Corse-du-Sud, for its part, has a rate of 52 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

All indicators green in the East

Conversely, some departments are well below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This is particularly the case in Overseas France, with Mayotte (17) and Réunion (26). The north of the country also remains relatively spared: 29 in Pas-de-Calais, 23 in Aisne, 30 in Seine-Maritime, 19 in Manche.

The same goes for the east, where all the departments are in the green: 15 in the Vosges, 21 in the Meuse and Aube, 26 in the Territoire de Belfort.
