Sudan, anti-coup protests overnight: at least 7 dead

Protests in Sudan against the military coup continued overnight. The BBC reports reports that at least seven people were killed and dozens injured, many due to the intervention of military forces who opened fire on the demonstrators. Sky News quotes a health ministry official who speaks of at least 140 injured. An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council is expected in the next few hours after yesterday the Sudanese general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced the dissolution of the Sovereign Council and declared a state of emergency in the country a few hours after the news of the ‘arrest of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other civilian leaders of the transition authorities.
