Is a new epidemic wave approaching? France has again crossed the threshold of 5,000 daily cases of Covid-19. According to figures released Monday, October 25 by Public health France, 5,293 new cases were identified in 24 hours. They confirm that contaminations have started to rise again since around October 20.

If we smooth the numbers over a week, Monday was the third day in a row above 5,000 new cases per day. There were 5,084 on Saturday, 5,259 on Sunday, and 5,293 on Monday, while this indicator was below 4,700 until October 19.

The bar of 5,000 daily cases was retained in November 2020 as a reference by President Emmanuel Macron as the one below which it was possible to closely follow the transmission of the disease. According to him, it allowed a normal opening of shops and places of leisure.

If the epidemic is picking up again, the hospital data remains relatively reassuring. The number of hospitalized patients, of 6,405 Monday, has been almost stable since mid-October. And in critical care wards, which are treating the most serious cases, the number of 1,023 on Monday is among the lowest since the start of the pandemic.

According to the Directorate General of Health, 49,856,632 people now have a complete vaccination schedule, or 73.9% of the total population. At the current rate, the 50 million mark could be reached around All Saints’ Day.
