Slovak defender of Washington Martin Fehérváry gained attention over the weekend after scoring his first goal in the NHL, but coach Peter Laviolette is most pleased with how he is doing alongside the star John Carlson.

Fehérváry won a place in the first Capitals team in the training camp, but it may have surprised someone that he entered the season in the first pair. And from the first match, he shows that he fits into it and complements Carlson more offensively.

“He’s in a great place with John because John is a really intelligent, top NHL defender and he’s also a good communicator. He likes to play with Marty, so they strengthen their relationship and also work on building trust on the ice, “ said Laviolette.

The American helmsman said that there will be “peaks and falls” in Fehérváry’s development, but the coaching body is still satisfied with how the first couple works together.

The young Slovak has already presented himself with many excellent defensive interventions and has an excellent overview of the game. He knows when to join the attack and when to pull back again.

“He is a strong boy. He is a strong skater and a tough boy. If you want to be a good team, you have to be combative. “ Laviolette remarked.
