Case Eitan, former ambassador Pazner: “The best for the child has been decided”

It was not “a national question, but a human question, for a child,” says the former Israeli ambassador to Italy. “I believe that the Israeli court did what was best for the child, to return to Italy where he lives and grew up, where he feels at home, I believe justice has been done”. This was told to Adnkronos by former Israeli ambassador to Italy Avi Pazner, commenting on the sentence that decided to send Eitan Biran, the sole survivor of the Mottarone tragedy, back to Italy. Pazner explained that the legal case concerning the custody of the child did not have the same media coverage in Israel as in Italy. I believe, he added, “that the majority of people think like me. I do not speak as a former ambassador, I speak as an Israeli citizen who reflects, I believe, a common thought. In Israel there was no feeling of confrontation between Israel and the ‘Italy on this question “. It was not “a national question, but a human question for a child,” Pazner stressed.
