Tough penalties for the unvaccinated

The office said that if the number of patients with covid-19 in intensive care units reached 500, a quarter of the country’s total JIS capacity, only those who have been vaccinated or survived the disease will enter businesses such as restaurants and hotels.

If the number exceeds 600, the government intends to restrict the movement of unvaccinated people. In this case, they would only be allowed to leave their homes for specific reasons.

The number of cases is growing

According to the APA, 220 patients with covid-19 are currently being treated in intensive care units in Austria. In the last week, the Austrian health authorities registered 20,408 new cases of coronavirus infection, which means a seven-day incidence of 228.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. The previous week the incidence was 152.5.

Vaccination is slow

The pace of vaccination has slowed in Austria in recent months. 62.2 percent of the population is now fully vaccinated. The Free Party of Austria (FPÖ), one of the largest parties in the country, also supports skepticism about anti-cancer vaccines, recalls the DPA.

From 1 November, most employees in the country will have to prove that they have a vaccination certificate, a negative test or a certificate of overcoming covid at work.
