“Transhuman baby of Covid-19”: a video diverted to frighten

A video that has gone viral on TikTok shows a newborn baby sitting on a bed, in what looks like a hospital, with someone holding him up next to him. His large dark eyes look around, blinking slowly. Superimposed on the video is a comment from a woman, who says: “These pandemic babies are different”.

Images of this baby have spread across Facebook, Twitter and TikTok, with captions claiming the iris in his eyes was unusually large and describing him as “genetically modified” or even classified as a “transhuman baby” by a “court. American”. According to those who relay the images with these claims, no doubt: it is because his mother was vaccinated against Covid-19.

But this video is completely taken out of context: contacted by our team, Lara Saadeddine, the mother of the child, explained that she was tired of the image of her daughter, called Dream, being hijacked on social networks. She confirmed to us that her child had no eye problems and that her daughter was simply a baby born prematurely at 36 weeks – or eight months pregnant – instead of the average 39 to 40 weeks.

In addition, her mother had not received the vaccine against Covid-19 when she was pregnant; she did not receive it until months after giving birth.
