He constantly blames himself for the fact that he accidentally shot the cameraman during the shooting of the western film Rust.

Alec Baldwin is cooperating with a police investigation, which focused on the specialist responsible for the weapon and the assistant director, who handed it over to the actor before filming the fateful scene.

It has been several complaints to the director’s assistant in the past regarding workplace safety violations. As he said The Guardian, propsman Maggie Goll had complaints about Dave Halls during the filming of the TV series Into the Dark. According to her, Halls did not follow the security protocols for weapons and pyrotechnics when she worked with him in 2019. She adds that the tragedy, which happened, but is not the fault of one person.

Director Joel Souza (48), who was released from hospital after a short hospitalization, was also injured in the tragedy during the filming. He finally took part in the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600 organized an online fundraiser to raise funds to support the Hutchins family, who had raised a nine-year-old son with her husband, Matthew.

The American Film Institute (AFI) has set up a scholarship in honor of Hutchins to support budding cameramen.

Petition banning sharp weapons during filming

More than 18,000 people signed the petition for a ban on small arms when shooting movie scenes and for better working conditions for staffs by Sunday afternoon. It is a reaction to an incident in which the American actor Alec Baldwin fatally injured the cameraman and injured the director while filming the scene in the western Rust.

“There is no justification that this will happen in the 21st century,” reads the text of a petition initiated by screenwriter and director Bandar Albuliwi.

For example, Shi Lian Huang, the first professional gunsmith in Hollywood, wrote on her Twitter account that she had worked on hundreds of movie scenes using weapons that went around without incident because strict safety protocols and protective covers were followed. “The tragedy that happens in this way denies everything I know about the handling of weapons in movie scenes,” she wrote.

She admitted that the most basic, standard safety procedures may not have been followed when filming Rust. And that no one stopped the production (film) anyway.
