The legendary Gunther from the series Friends has died. Actor James Michael Tyler was 59 years old – REFRESHER

Actor James Michael Tyler died at the age of 59, who became famous mainly for his role as Gunther from the series Friends, states USA Today.

Tyler announced this year that he is suffering from advanced prostate cancer. Over time, the manager of the popular Central Perk café has become a fixture on television screens, thanks to which he has appeared together in up to 150 episodes of the series.

“The world knew him as Gunther, the seventh ‘Friend,’ but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, a musician, a cancer awareness, and a loving husband.” wrote manager Toni Benson in Tyler’s death announcement. Tyler was remembered by a number of acting colleagues, but also by the official twitter account of the Friends series, which described him as a beloved actor and a substantial part of the entire series.

In May, according to his own words, Tyler wanted to appear as Gunther in a special episode of Friends, in which all the actors met years later, but his health made it impossible for him. In the end, he greeted the audience only through a video call, which he justified by saying that he did not need to draw attention to himself during the filming with his diagnosis.

Despite his advanced stage of cancer, Tyler did not give up his acting profession, most recently appearing in several short films and focusing mainly on activism.

“My goal for the last year has been to live to my 59th birthday. I did it. The current goal is to help save at least one life by going public with these news. “ he noted a few months ago when he described how he was diagnosed with cancer during a routine medical examination.
