Braňo Mojsej Jr.: My father thought that he was the “master of everything”, so he commented on everything. That’s exactly the power the media gives you – REFRESHER

When we say “Braňo Mojsej”, each of us will surely imagine the reality shows and a bunch of scandals that filled the tabloids with this name. However, the son of a well-known television face does not follow in his father’s footsteps and tries to break out of his shadow with quality music.

In the interview, he told us how he once had a relationship with his father, what he has like today, and why he actually decided to show himself in Superstar. He also told us about the difficult times when his family was the target of media attention precisely because of his father’s problems with alcohol. Although he is used to living in his father’s shadow, he sometimes closes the door for him rather than making it easier for him to follow his dream.

In this article you will read:

  • Why Braňo Mojsej Jr. signed up for Superstar and whether he wanted to win.
  • Whether he prefers to be a singer or a guitarist.
  • What he graduated from and where he currently works.
  • What unpleasant meetings with journalists he remembers from childhood.
  • How his view of the boulevard changed when he tried the work of a reporter himself.
  • How he was treated by colleagues who had written about his father’s scandals in the past.
  • Why is the name “Moses” a double-edged sword?
  • About whether they pointed a finger at him as a child because of his father and his ex-wife.

How are u?

I’m fine, I just got back from the gym. I miss the game, because now the measures are tightening up again and businesses are closing down, but one also has to rest and do other things. So I’m catching up on the gym that I neglected in the summer when there were concerts. (laughter)

Have you recently progressed to Superstar, how do you feel about this process? Are you going full throttle?

You know what, I took it for the last time as a last chance to sign up here. I’d rather try not to blame myself for it when it’s too late. I took the procedure as a second chance, because the jury told me to choose a better song. In the next round, which is already published on Voyo, however, I did not succeed.

It was clear to me that there are younger and better singers in Superstar, but I wanted to make myself known and visible in this way, which I may have quite well succeeded in.

I haven’t seen that part yet. Are you going on there, did you drop out?

I’ve already dropped out in the theater. There, four guys got Christina Aguilera and we went to hell. (laughter)

In my opinion, the superstar is, for the most part, also about the happiness of the song you get, as everyone can sit on something different. Someone just shows up in a song and sends someone else away. After all, that’s what the competition is about, the singer must show his versatility, but also have a bit of luck.

So you didn’t go there with the idea of going to win it, but rather to make yourself visible?

As you say. I went to the Superstar, saying that I wanted to try it, because I looked at it as a child, although I would never have said in those years that I would ever be there alone. I had no idea yet that I would devote myself to singing. Secondly, I knew that there were other singing calibers to win, and I think that Superstar is looking for someone who is in the children’s room, has a brutal talent and otherwise you won’t know about him.

What I like most is that whether my father or I come somewhere alone, so many people have prejudices: “Jesus, Moses, what will it be?” And finally we will surprise them positively..

For example, I go to play a lot, and that’s why I was more interested in presenting myself on TV and showing that I also do my things and give concerts. So yes, I wanted to make myself known and Superstar seemed to me a fairly suitable channel.

By the way, I applied to Superstar last year, but in the end I gave it up because I saw that it went a lot after my father and things related to him. This time, however, I said to myself that I would go there anyway. I already knew what I was getting into. It bothered me two years ago. I didn’t know if I was interested in them at all or that they would only ask about their father. However, I had already come to terms with it and, knowing that it would not be different, I still wanted to present myself.

That’s why I asked you about it, because you definitely had to go there with the idea that they would also discuss it. Wouldn’t it be easier for you to make yourself visible through your father than to go to a Superstar full of people who had no connection to celebrities, unlike you?

I devote myself to my music, but I also go to a lot of concerts with my father. In this way, I ride on it a bit. Actually, my band, where we are three musicians, is also my father’s band. As soon as he joins us, we are already his band and we play his songs. (laughter)

At that time, however, I am no longer in the position of a singer, but a guitarist, and I only sing some vocals in the background. So yes, I play with my father, but I don’t do it to be visible, but because I enjoy it, I enjoy his songs, and after all, since he abstains, we are much closer and I enjoy the stay together even more. on stage.

When he still had problems with alcohol, that was pretty much on the edge. Although we didn’t reveal anything to the people, I knew it wasn’t exactly what it was supposed to be. Now we really enjoy it, we play and we don’t have fear.

And what’s closer to you? To play with your own band as a singer or to accompany your father?

Of course I like to play with my band. Then I sing, I talk to people, but then there is no way for me to win the guitar, because playing and singing at the same time requires a certain concentration and you still can’t play a solo if you want it to be tasteful as a whole.

On the contrary, when I play with my father, I’m a little behind and I have room for those solos. In that case, however, the focus is on the father and he is the center, and I am fully aware that people came mainly to him. So if I should summarize it, I like both, and what I like the most is that I can do both, and together they complement it.

Even if we sometimes play alone, without a father, whether we want to or not, we have been playing my father’s songs for years, because everyone asks them: “There is a young Moses, play Fernet over the internet!”. Of course, I’m not going to tell people, “No, we’re not going to play it for you, it’s not our songs, it’s my father’s.” We play them without a father. These are songs that people want to hear whether we play at companies or any events, as we go a lot of companies. I do not hide it at all or I am not ashamed of it.

I like all kinds of events, including this one. I call it “corporate gaming” because it’s not a classic concert. I play in a company, someone knows I’ll be there, someone doesn’t, and what I like the most is that whether my father or I come somewhere alone, so many people have prejudices: “Jesus, that Moses, what will it be?” And finally we will surprise them positively. In this we have it easier and harder at the same time, because people expect it to be bad, and all they have to do is surprise them a little more positively and they are already “wow”.

Since when have you been involved in music? Did your father lead you to her from an early age, or did it come by itself?

As a child, I grew up among musicians. When my father and mother lived with us at home, we had a rehearsal room in the house, where my father’s band went, and I kept looking at them. It was a great experience for a child, they gave me to try drums and some instruments.

When I was about five years old, my father bought me drums and I started playing them. I played on them until I was ten, but always just at home or with someone. Then I left it because football came.

At that time, my father thought that he was the “master of everything”, so he commented on everything. This is exactly the power that the media will give you. Everyone listens to you, so suddenly you speak …

At about fifteen, I told my father to give me a guitar, but I came to see it myself, it wasn’t at his instigation. We were no longer living together then, the parents were divorced. I wanted to learn to play it because I saw a friend training some Guns N ‘Roses songs, and I was quite intrigued. So yes, I grew up in a musical environment, my father influenced me a lot, especially when it comes to my musical patterns and the music I listen to, but it wasn’t he who caught me playing the guitar, but the friend I saw playing.

So no ZUŠ-ka, nothing like that, just a self-taught man who started everything himself, from hearing from scratch until now?

Exactly. I think if I had a music education, I could be a little technically better, but I’m the “feeling player” again. I prefer just such emotional players, because when I see that there is a tone generator on stage who plays a brutal solo, but it’s soulless, I don’t care. It’s like Passat. Volkswagen Passat. You look at that car, it takes you, but there’s no emotion. (laughter)

As far as I know, you have studied mass media, but you focus on the IT sphere. What position do you specifically work in?

You are right about the height, I also tried to work in the most read Slovak daily …

We will get to that.

Okay, I still figured I didn’t want to do it. (laughter)

So yes, I have studied mass media and I work in IT, I am an administrator – system maintenance. I’m not a developer. It’s such a nice robot to play with, because it just fits here and I’m done. In addition, I work on change and I don’t do every day, which allows me to devote myself to music and at the same time be sure during a pandemic, because now you never know. Sometimes there is a lot of playing, but then the drought comes and there are no gigs like now.

So what does your week look like? From Monday to Friday work for changes and the weekend you play? So if there was no pandemic …

It’s so different. I have both day and night there, so I do two or three days during the week, sometimes there is less, sometimes more. It is completely irregular. Then, when it’s season, Friday and Saturday are played. Sometimes there are concerts even during the week, but especially during the weekend, ie I play on Saturdays and on Sundays, when I return from the concert, I already have a night.

I don’t have a regular biorhythm at all, which I may sometimes miss, because I actually live only on dates. Deadline when I do, deadline when I play. Then I have days that, for example, five days nothing – free and I can go to the gym, like today. I have it different, I don’t have a stereotype. However, he is sometimes good.

Is it your dream to have music as a full-time job, or does it suit you the way it is?

I would certainly sometimes want to make a living just by music, but I think that the pandemic has shown that one must also have solid ground under one’s feet, which is the job. I was glad to be at home, working at the home office and having a lot to live on, and some of the musicians who made the music to the fullest and maybe even had larger supplies had a problem. You just have a bar set somewhere and you have some obligations that you have to pay. However, I would like to try it at least for a while, it’s completely a dream job to play and just do it. I admire and respect all the musicians who in Slovakia today live only on music and they do it.

We mentioned the pandemic several times here. Has it influenced you in your career in any way?

Yes, no. When I think about it, 2019 was completely blown away for me. My father and I had quite a lot of concerts, still a different club, a different festival and a different city. Maybe that’s why I literally enjoyed the first month of lockdown. I went for walks with my dog in nature and overall I stopped a bit and realized that sometimes I get married and I don’t know what.

In the long run, however, I think that despite the fact that we realized many things, the pandemic took us much more. For example, playing itself was much more, now it’s just a seasonal thing. On the other hand, years, when everything opens, are thicker. The last one was probably the strongest we ever had, because all the concerts from the whole summer were limited only to this period.
