Presidential 2022: Eric Zemmour questions the speed limits and wants to remove the points license – LCI

It was an area in which he was not expected. Guest on the set of the show “Le Grand Jury”, broadcast on LCI, the essayist located on the far right of the political spectrum gave his opinion on several road safety measures, proposing in particular to remove the license points, which would essentially serve to bring money to the State and to “piss off the French”.

Denying the impact of this regulatory measure on the protection of road users, Eric Zemmour explained that it was useless, just like the speed limit on highways.

Acknowledging that between 1972 and today, the number of road deaths had dropped from 75,000 to less than 5,000, Eric Zemmour however explained that this was due “to the improvement of cars” and “to the road safety belt”. The essayist also cited other European countries that do not use this measure such as Switzerland, Sweden or Finland.

“The points license is a racketeering organized by the State”, assured Eric Zemmour speaking of the road safety awareness courses that would be “infantilizers”, would cost “300 euros” and report “75 million euros to the State”. “It’s racketeering”, he repeated.

In fact, this two-day training course, if it is taken on a voluntary basis, makes it possible to recover up to four points, without waiting for a probationary period of one year. It can also be imposed by the courts in the event of an infringement, and does not allow points to be recovered in this situation. According to website of the Minister of the Interior, the average price of the course is 200 €, although the person in charge of the course is free to fix the price.

In addition to this proposal, Eric Zemmour denounced the speed limits, especially on the highway. “I have always found speed limits on highways to be quite unnecessary”, said the polemicist, this time citing the example of Germany.

In this country, road safety still advises driving at a maximum speed of 130 km / hour. Unlike the French regulations, however, failure to comply with this recommendation does not result in an infringement. Moreover, the speed remains the leading cause of road fatalities in France, being both a triggering factor for the accident and an aggravating factor. In fact, the higher the speed, the more violent the shock and therefore the serious consequences.

The polemicist finally announced that he would go back on the implementation of the limit to 80 km / h on two-way roads without a central separator to put a limit back to 90 km / h. “We constantly go from 80 to 90 km / h and that obviously allows motorists to flash”, thus attested the essayist.
