The Czech Republic will not recognize the Russian coronavirus Sputnik V vaccine even for Russian tourists entering the Czech Republic. They will be considered unvaccinated and will have to undergo quarantine upon arrival in the Czech Republic. The portal informed about it on Sunday iRozhlas.cz resisting the spokesman of the Czech Ministry of Health Daniel Köppl.

The Russians are asking for approval

The Russian vaccine is still awaiting approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The Russian side recently tried to recognize it in part in the Czech Republic.

The Czech authorities have received several requests from dozens of Russian tourists in recent days. They demanded that Sputnik V be recognized in the Czech Republic, as well as other coronavirus vaccines, so that they would not have to undergo mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the Czech Republic. However, the Czech side refused.

“We do not recognize Sputnik as a vaccine among Russian tourists and they will have to enter a mandatory quarantine… They do not have European vaccine passports. It is set so that specific vaccines are not recognized but a European certificate is issued. Sputnik is not recognized in the European Union. “ said Köppl.

They do not want to vaccinate Sputnik until it is approved

Despite pressure from Czech President Miloš Zeman, he has not yet been vaccinated with the Russian vaccine in the Czech Republic. The distribution of Sputnik V in the Czech Republic will probably not even begin in the near future, as according to the Reuters EMA agency it will probably decide on its approval in the first quarter of 2022 at the earliest, writes iRozhlas.

Former Czech Minister of Health Jan Blatný has also stated in the past that “If he is a minister, he will not be vaccinated in the Czech Republic with a substance that has not been approved by the EMA”.

However, the Russian side claims that it has not yet received an official statement on the non-recognition of the Russian vaccine among tourists coming from Russia. The Russian embassy in Prague stated that “Does not have official information on the issue of further tourism exchanges with Russia”.

The deterioration of Russian-Czech relations occurred in April this year, when the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Deputy Prime Minister Jan Hamáček announced that Russian military intelligence agents were behind the explosion in the ammunition depot in Vrbětice in 2014.
