The activity of the Fréjus branch, which benefited 200 people, was taken over by volunteers from neighboring branches, Roquebrune-sur-Argens, Toulon and Draguignan, to avoid stopping food deliveries. The management has been temporarily entrusted to the head of the Roquebrune-sur-Argens branch, announcement France 3this Sunday, October 24. The reopening is scheduled for October 26.

Resignation after a management ultimatum

The 15 volunteers of the Fréjus branch packed their bags after the management of the association decided to give them an ultimatum: continue to help people in an irregular situation or resign. They therefore chose the second option.

The former team manager, Hervé, explained to Var Morning that they had to face “big security problems”: “Some of them have become threatening. One day, a member of our team even took a tin can in the face. We had to react before a volunteer was injured. We continued to serve migrants on condition that they were accompanied by the social worker who follows them in their legal process to apply for asylum. With regard to illegal immigrants and illegal immigrant in irregular situations, which by definition are not followed by any social worker, we had to make the decision to no longer register them ”.

David Rachline, the mayor RN of Fréjus, showed his support for the volunteers: “Yes, I support them because I would like the associative management to be more correct with them and that this same hierarchy takes into account the realities on the ground and does not ‘not shut up in an ivory tower in which one has the impression that undocumented migrants do not pose a problem ”.
