The electric Porsche Taycan is a blow straight to the black. This year, it beat all classic Porsches with internal combustion engines in sales. Only the Cayenne and Macan SUVs are better at it. And Porsche wanted to produce only 20,000 units a year.

The coronary crisis hit mass car manufacturers in particular. Those premiums bore the consequences of lockdowns more easily. And their solvent customers. This also applies to Porsche. It even withstands the chip crisis. At the head of the Volkswagen Group, the decision was made that semiconductor components would go mainly to the premium divisions, ie to the brands that show the highest margin. So while the Škoda lines have almost stopped, Porsche is producing in bulk. His results this year are really excellent. In the third quarter, ie from the beginning of July to the end of September, it increased car sales by 13% year-on-year, to 217,198 units.

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo – 2021 Taycan’s success was also helped by a new version of Cross Turismo with a raised chassis and a larger “trunk”.

Although this is a comparison with last year’s pandemic year, the summer months were among the strongest. Porsche improved its results in Germany by a child, in China by 11 and in the USA even by 30 percent. However, the most interesting are the figures concerning Taycan. This electric 4-door coupe recorded 28,640 registrations this year. At once, it found itself on the rankings in front of the iconic 911 model, from which 27,972 pieces were “missed”, also by Panamera (20,275 pieces) or twins 718 Boxter / Cayman (15,916 pieces). And the nineteenth was improved by 10% this year.

Only the Cayenne SUVs (62,451 units) and the Macan SUVs (61,944 units) sold better. So it does not have the first electric Porsche on the popular SUV, but it clearly indicates that the bet on Porsche batteries has come out. In sales, Taycan has even overtaken Tesla S. That’s why the Zuffenhausen carmaker will electrify its entire portfolio. Virtually all models will be converted to clean electric cars, with the exception of the iconic 911 coupe, which plans to maintain internal combustion engines through the supply of synthetic fuels.

Interestingly, Porsche originally planned to produce only 20,000 Taycans a year. The interest in it also surprised the carmaker itself, which was the decision to double the production capacity of the plant in Leipzig, where Taycan is coming off the assembly lines.
