Aturri College in the Basque Country: what we know about the possible intrusion, the students finally evacuated – South West

The sub-prefect of Bayonne Philippe Le Moing Surzur held a press conference Thursday, October 21 at 2 p.m. after the possible intrusion of individuals at Aturri college in the morning in Saint-Pierre d’Irube.

“Two people pray on a prayer rug”

He specifies: “At 9 am, three students saw two people praying on a prayer rug, and entering the college with a backpack. Principal Mr. Duros, after having contacted the departmental services of National Education, triggered the intrusion alert procedure. Students were confined to classrooms, with an adult in each class. The gendarmerie services were immediately mobilized to remove doubts. They checked the college piece by piece until the doubts were raised at 1:30 pm ”.

Children evacuated in peace

The sub-prefect indicates “that no suspicious person has been found in the establishment”. In the college parking lot, “two suspicious vehicles were demined until 2 pm”. The representative of the State also indicates that “we took care to evacuate the pupils, in a third place, to take them out of a somewhat stressful environment where they were confined.” They were to be reunited with their parents around 4 p.m. Note that an intrusion alert exercise had been carried out in this college the day before.

The public prosecutor Jérôme Bourrier indicated that the services of the judicial police and the search and intervention brigade came to the support of the gendarmerie. “The owners of the two vehicles have been identified, and will be heard. They are not unfavorably known to the police services ”. The investigation for meeting intrusion was entrusted to the Bayonne gendarmerie research brigade.
