Hurricane Ignatz has been wrinkling the forehead of several European countries since night. According to the portal iMeteo.sk France and Germany have already had the worst situation. In France, especially in the north of the country and around the capital Paris, the storm has reached gusts of wind of up to 109 kilometers per hour.

As many as 250,000 households did not have electricity in the morning. The strongest gusts of wind were in the English Channel area in the town of Fécamp, where they measured gusts of wind of up to 175 kilometers per hour. From the videos circulating on social networks, it is clear that it was difficult for people who dared to go out on the ground. The wind did what he wanted with them. In Le Havre, they measured the second strongest wind at a speed of up to 150 kilometers per hour.

Subsequently, the storm moved over Germany and the Netherlands. There was a strong wind especially in the German mountains, specifically in the area of ​​the Feldberg hill, where meteorologists measured the wind at a speed of up to 166 kilometers per hour. In addition, bad weather has caused several transport problems – for example, in Bad Godesberg, a freight train derailed after a tree fell on the track. For the time being, the train connection between Cologne and Koblenz is interrupted.

Although the trains have been diverted, they are delayed. However, the storm did not escape the capital Berlin either, where the wind reached a speed of about 90 kilometers per hour, so firefighters did not delay and declared a state of emergency. In many parts of the city, trees fell on cars, which firefighters are now trying to remove. In Germany, they also register the first victim of the Ignatz storm, in Saxony-Anhalt, where a tree fell on a passing car between Elend and Braulage.

A tornado appeared on the Dutch-German border, near the town of Heerenberg. According to initial information, it reached the power of F0.

The storm is currently located above the Czech Republic, where warnings are issued until about 7 p.m. In the capital city of Prague, meteorologists from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute issued 2nd degree warnings against wind. Second-level warnings apply to almost the entire west of the country, a first-level warning is issued for the central Czech Republic, and no warnings are issued to the east of the country. The wind should reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour in our western neighbors, even in the lowlands.

Firefighters and rescuers are already on standby due to the imminent danger, and the competent residents of the Czech Republic are being warned to prepare for transport complications and possible power outages. “We are in the field, we are working to restore the supply of electricity to households. The situation is complicated by a strong gust of wind, which breaks trees and branches. They fall on the wires, tear the wires, damage the insulators, ” said Soňa Holingerová, a spokeswoman for ČEZ Distribuce. At the moment, Prague firefighters are intervening on more than 700 exits. On the contrary, firefighters from Hradec Králové solve not only fallen trees but also torn roofs, which they try to secure.

They also report problems from Prague Airport, where they register “problems with unloading the luggage of the three lines, which may delay their departure”. The strongest gusting wind so far was measured by meteorologists from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in Milešovka, where it reached a speed of 133 kilometers per hour.

The storm is likely to cause problems in Austria as well, especially in the east around the capital Vienna, where wind gusts can reach up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Slovakia should be affected only marginally by the storm, first-level warnings apply especially in the west of Slovakia – for the districts of Bratislava, Pezinok, Senec and Dunajská Streda, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Meteorologists issued a warning for Stará Ľubovňa, Kežmarok, Poprad, Námestovo, Liptovský Mikuláš and Tvrdošín from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm. Alerts also apply to districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Poprad, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Martin, Námestovo, Ružomberok, Tvrdošín and Žilina. “In the mountains above the forest zone, in some places wind is expected to reach speeds of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour in gusts,” claims SHMÚ.
